SANYASA DEEKSHA NAKSHATHRA DAY

Celebration Every Month and Sanyasa deeksha jayanthi every year for

Pujya Shri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Mahaswamigal,

The 68th Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam,

Kancheepuram, Tamilnadu, India.

When Sanathana Dharma in Bharatha Desa (India) was in Decline and in deterioration,
Lord Shiva Descended to earth to rejenuvate the same in India by Taking Birth as
Adhi Sankaracharya in Kaladi, Kochi, Kerala.

Due to the staunch Penance, devotion and prayers of childless Brahmin couple
Sri Shiva guru and Aryambal towards Lord Vadakkunathar (Shiva)
in thrissur, Kerala, to bestow them with a child, Shiva himself was born as a son to the couple.
Since he was born due to the blessings of Lord Shiva, he was named as Shankara.

Shankara had aksharabyasam at the age of three but unfortunately his father passed away at the age of four.

Then he was initiated in to Brahmacharyam (Upanayanam) at the age of five.

Right from the beginning, Adhi Shankara led an ascetic life and wanted to be a hermit (Sanyasi)
but his wishes were not full filled due to the influence of his mother since
she wanted her only son to be by her side till her last breath.

Since the Destiny was otherwise, the situation totally got dramatically changed.

One Day when Adhi Shankara and his mother were bathing in river Poorna at Kaladi, Kerala,
Adhishankara was caught hold by a crocodile and he could not get out of it.
So Adhishankara told his mother that his life is nearing an end and he can survive
if and only if his mother gives permission to take Sanyasa ashrama.
Since sanyasam is considered as punar janma (Rebirth),
his mother immediately gave consent on the condition that he will fulfill her
aspirations of being by her side in her last days and doing final rites after her demise.
Adhishankara agreed to full fill her mother’s wishes and took Sanyasa on the spot,
upon which he was relived from the clutches of crocodile,
WHICH IS CONSIDERED AS HIS REBIRTH.

As we all know Adhishankaracharya re-established Sanathana dharma
in whole of India and propagated advaitha Sidhdhanta of Vedic scriptures.
After establishing chaduramnaya peetams in four directions and appointing his
Shishyas as peetathipathis, Adhishankaracharya ascended Sarvagna Peetam at
Kancheepuram by establishing Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.

Thus the true Sanyasa ashrama from Brahmacharyam is considered as
punar janma (Rebirth) which was proven in Adhishankaracharya`s life.

In The Same Manner, it is considered that celebrating the Sanyasa Deeksha Nakshathra
will be a fitting tribute and devotion to the 68th Sage of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam
who is reverentially worshipped as an incarnation of Adhishankara himself.
During his taking over of Sanyasa deeksha, sastras, and Vedas were in declain and
Sri Mahaswamigal Graced the nation by travelling the length and breadth
of the country only by walk, Reverentially worshiped as
Nadamadum Deivam (Walking God)
and also by establishing vedhapatasalas, sathas, gosamrakshanas,
temple consecrations, Anugrahabhashanams…etc.
rejenuvated the Vedas and Sastras in the country throughout his life time.

His Sanyasa Life was So Ascetic and Anushtanams were to the core
that no one on earth can practice the Sanyasa dharma as practiced by Shri Mahaswamigal.
That is why He was being praised by many Vedic Scholars who used to say in Sanskrit

“NABHUTHO NABAVISHYATHI”
(Meaning – No One Was Like Him and No One Will Be Like Him)

Though He was born as Sri Swaminathan in 1894 May 20th In Anuradha Nakshathra (Anusham),
He was initiated in to the Sanyasa ashrama in MOOLA Nakshathra,
which is considered as goddess SARASWATHI ’S Nakshathra.
It is so coincidental that Shri Mahaswamigal ascended the MOOLAMNAYA Peetam,
having Suffix name as SARASWATHI. So it is the wishes of millions of devotees of
Sri Kanchi Kamakoti mutt to celebrate his
MOOLA Nakshathra as SANYASA DEEKSHA NAKSHATRA
every month and as well celebrate his SANYASA DEEKSHA JAYANTHI
every year which comes in the Tamil month of Masi in Moola Nakshathra.

It should also be noted that Sri Maha Swamigal maintained
MOUNAM (Total Silence)
in every Moola Nakshathra day.

All our efforts and Prayers for this Celebration would not be possible but for the blessings of
His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Maha Swamigal
(who set an example for guru Bhakti where no other saint we have ever seen) &
Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.

Each and every devotees of Kanchi mutt and Sri Mahaswamigal,
(The Sage of Kanchi) Should Participate in this holy service throughout the life time
and initiate the same devotion and worship in their younger generation
so as to enable the function to continue in an everlasting manner.

EVER IN THE SERVICE OF SRI MUTT
&
THEIR PEETATHIPATHIS
Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara
Kanchi Sankara Kamakoti Sankara

Note: The Sanyasa Deeksha Jayanthi is Being Celebrated in every Masi Month Moola Nakshathra for the past five Years at the
HOLY BRINDHAVAN OF KANCHI MUTT
which is being graced by Both Acharyas.
